Philippe Starck is a pretty nifty designer and I've bought a few items
of his in the past. In thine own eyes as they'd say in middle England in
the timeth of Shakespeare he doth be tad handy with thine quill,
especially when it comes to organic design. He's mostly known for his
latest work but some of his earlier stuff is rather special too like
this elegant floor lamp designed for St. Germain-Lumiere, France 1978.
It
uses a soft PL lamp of which is circumvented with red wire inside the
tube that makes it all feel really tactile. I particluar like the
chuncky handles that act as the lamp shield when laid on the ground or
propped up against the wall. In true Starck style the lamp is switched
on and off by turning the lamp over.
