In Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand, the Sky Lanterns are known as "Khoom Loy". Traditional Northern Thai (Lanna) people use Sky Lanterns for all year round celebrations. One in particular caught my eye, it's called the Loi Kratong festival where couples & loved ones gather on the riverbanks to release floating flowers & sky lanterns together. It's considered good luck to release a sky lantern, I think it's romantic.
